Defeat To Anji
Lokomotiv lost the match against Anji during Gameweek 16 of the ROSGOSSTRAKH Russian Football Championship.
Lokomotiv were to kick off the second round of their Premier League campaign with a fixture vs Anji. The international break brought about some changes to the Railwaymen’s first eleven: Tarasov and Corluka were match-fit again after injuries, and Skuletic replaced Niasse in the line-up.
At the previous stage of the tournament Lokomotiv and Anji had started out against each other much more briskly scoring two goals within the space of the 17 opening minutes. This time around, the whole half saw but a handful of chances. There was Samedov’s classy shot from a dead-ball situation. Denisov sent a pearler from 35 meters. The visiting team should be credited with a few counters, however Guilherme remained untroubled in the goal.
For the second half, our managers decided to bring on Niasse. Baye Oumar was quick in action and could have scored already on 55 minutes having won the struggle against a defender in the six-yard box. Instead, Anji broke on a counter-attack which ended with Abdulavov’s goal.
Lokomotiv retaliated with a most vicious free kick by Samedov - the ball shaved the top angle. Soon Makhachkala side capitalized on their second opportunity as Boli finished a cross from a corner kick.
Due to the unexpected defeat, Lokomotiv failed to cut the gap on CSKA. The difference with Zenit was narrowed to one point.
