Derby Win
Lokomotiv got the better of Spartak in Gameweek 12 match of ROSGOSSTRAKH Russian football championship.
The managers of both teams were unanimous: “The upcoming game is just a regular fixture.” However, it’s no secret to anyone that footballers themselves always feel special about derbies. The League standings added weight to the battle. With four points’ advantage over Spartak, Lokomotiv could extend the cushion to comfortable seven.
Lokomotiv started wonderfully. The Railwaymen kicked off at fast pace and pressed on, bombarding the area with lofted balls. One of such crosses, made by Denisov, was converted by the duo of Samedov and Kolomeytsev. Assisted by his team-mate, the latter headed it home from the six-yard box. Already in the next attack Pejcinovic could have increased the lead, but Nemanja’s shot caught the bar.
Lokomotiv continued to control play until Tarasov’s injury. The subsequent replacement in the middle of the period somewhat altered things. Before the interval, Spartak managed a few dangerous attacks of their own.
In halftime Spartak's coach decided to field Promes. He was quick in action right after the restart and tested Guilherme with a shot from close range. The red-whites were beginning to gain initiative when Niasse had something to say. Baye Oumar picked up possession on the wing, worked his way along the box line, took the ball around Shirokov and slammed into a top corner.
Upon scoring a goal Lokomotiv switched to counter-attacking mode. Loko put up a good defence, yet once Spartak found the back of our net when Bocchetti finished off a cross from the flank. The last minutes turned out to be quite heated, but the Railwaymen held on and saw their victory through.
Lokomotiv continue in the second place, five points ahead of Zenit and seven points ahead of Spartak.
