Lokomotiv Kicked Out From Russian Cup
Lokomotiv have lost against Amkar in the round of sixteen of the Russian Cup.
Fans had the opportunity to attend the match with Amkar free of charge. “Wear green, enter for free”, the club announced. Wearing green clothes or Loko merchandise was one’s entrance ticket to the stands.
Amkar were more vigorous from the outset. The opening 13 minutes saw the side earn five corners - and Prudnikov almost back-heeled one of them home. The away team’s frenetic attitude could be easily explained. Having suffered a 0:3 defeat in the League, Amkar were all too eager to avenge themselves - especially with Gadzhi Gadzhiyev’s 70th birthday anniversary in prospect.
Maicon responded on behalf of Loko. He curled the ball in from eight meters, however Selikhov managed to save it. The remaining time before the pause Lokomotiv spent building up attacks, but lacked penetration into Amkar’s danger zone.
In the second half the Railwaymen became more active. Grigoriev, who had substituted Kasaev, tested Selikhov’s goalkeeping skills. They were there - Amkar’s number one was definitely riding high that night just as his teammate Georgiy Dzhikiya. On 57 minutes, the midfielder produced a long-range shot from a set piece right into the top corner.
Lokomotiv were short of luck, alas. In the middle of the closing half Skuletic’s attempt flew inches wide off the bottom corner, and in the dying minutes Niasse’s shot from some five meters’ distance was parried by Selikhov.
Lokomotiv have been curbed from continuing in the Russian Cup.
