Lokomotiv In Quarterfinals!
Lokomotiv defeat Krylia Sovetov in the eighth-finals of the Russian Cup and move into the quarterfinals.
Compared with the team that beat CSKA a week before, Yuriy Syomin made just one change to his first XI. One of the starters was Marques Maicon – the man who brought us the win in the derby. And the Brazilian played a key part in this game with Krylia.
As soon as it kicked off, Lokomotiv steamed forward and peppered Konuhov’s goal with long-range shots, netting an opener. Fernandes left the ball for Maicon, who set it up with the first touch and found the near corner with the next.
In the second half Marques launched a slick attack. After picking up possession from Igor Denisov, the Brazilian sprinted half the of the pitch until he pinged a pass to Yanbaev who then assisted Samedov. Alexander made it 2:0 with a crisp finish. In 14 minutes Maicon himself contributed with an assist as he released Fernandes into the box. The latter fooled Nadson and curled the ball into the top 90.
Later in the match Krylia came on strong, and Chochiev pulled one back at the 75th minute. Following that, the Samara team fiercely attacked the Railwaymen’s goal, but Guilherme and the defenders demonstrated excellent skills.
Lokomotiv progress to the quarterfinals of the Russian Cup, in which we will face FC Tosno. The fixture is scheduled for March next year.
