Igor Cherevchenko: We lost many tackles
Lokomotiv head coach Igor Cherevchenko has summarized the Europa League round of 32 first-leg game against Fenerbahce (0:2).
"Fenerbahce looked better in terms of fitness and psychology. I kept saying official games cannot be compared to friendlies, and the guys were too vigilant. Also we lost many tackles. The result could have been worse but 0:2 leaves us with some hope.
We knew that Fenerbahce's defenders are strong in aerial battles so we asked the guys to keep the ball low. Of course, we lacked Niasse's pace that had been crucial to counter-attacks. Almost all the chances that we had were created after set pieces.
Before the game I warned the team the hosts were going to cross from the flanks. And eventually both goals were scored off the services that came from the wings. We have to work on the mistakes. I am sure Fenerbahce won't have a walk in the park in Moscow."
