Fernandes: We were worthy of win and place in the last eight
Lokomotiv midfielder Manuel Fernandes offers his summary of the encounter with Krylia Sovetov in the round of 16 of the Russian Cup.
- It was a tough match, though it could seem otherwise from the outside. The lucky start played an important role. In my mind, we were worthy of the win and a place among the last eight. As for the goal I scored, it all happened very quickly. I shook off two defenders. Maicon provided a quality assist which set up for me. I hit the top 90. People say it was a beautiful goal!
- Lokomotiv are on a run of two straight wins – one against CSKA and the other against Krylia. Does the team feel the taste of victory?
- We have a great team, and everyone is in high spirits now, for sure. The winless spell was lengthy - up to the last weekend we all were a bit jumpy. Now we need to keep it up. Out in the field, things may change any time, so we must do the best in every challenge.
- With each passing game, we see you get better and better. Would you say that you are approaching top form and fitness?
- For me - or any other player – playing time is essential. The more I play the better I perform. Well, I hope the trend will prevail and I will continue helping my team.
